Formula for Cabochons

Do you need to figure out how much material you need to make them cabs?
Here is a formula I ran across, I do hope it helps. I have tried many ways to get the right sizes, wrapping a string around the stone, or just wrapping the wire around and cutting it hopeful that it will work. But here is the math of it all.

Formula for oval cabs:
Add diameter to width, divide by 2, then add thickness of collet material and x 3.142
eg 14 x 10mm cab with 0.5mm bezel wire: 14 + 10 = 24, halved is 12, plus 0.5 = 12.5 x 3.142 = 39.28mm
23 x 15mm cab with 0.5mm bezel: 23 + 15 = 38, halved is 19, plus 0.5 = 19.5 x 3.142 = 59.70mm

Formula for oval faceted:
Add diameter to width, divide by 2, plus half thickness of collet material x 3.142
eg 10 x 8 oval faceted with 0.5mm bezel wire: 10 + 8 = 18, halved is 9 + 0.25 = 9.25 x 3.142 = 29.06 mm
